Agency I think is the the number one thing that gets Quake bitten in the butt. I think Champions tried to bridge the gap with that but the nuances between characters aren't as apparent as something like the difference between a Grappler and a Zoner in FGs. Secondly, I think new Arena FPS players struggle to find an identity in the arena as you need to use all of the tools not just your favorite. Some people like that as it feels like they agency others don't because most people follow the path of least resistance and don't wanna work for the entertainment. Quakes flag shipmode Duel, and FG's like Street Fighter are very intimate. I think core difference is CSGO, Valorant emphasises Teamwork, over individual skill. Those games have a high skill curve too that players desperately try to master (also much like fighting games). Looking at all the Valorant, and CSGO players. Fighting games and AFPS have alot of the same issues to gain appeal because of the seemingly daunting skill curve and yet. I think AFPS could have as large of a community if not larger than the FGC (Fighting Game Community). Resources and LinksĪs a new Quake player myself Ive thought about this alot and it puzzles me. There are a few devs that roam this reddit.
